Aft Head Counter and Cabinet Modification

Winter 2009
and into 2010 and 2011 - slowing down because of work on the condo!

REVISED 6/24/2010

The idea to rebuild counter was based on wanting a larger sink and move it closer to the front edge.
Without a winter lay-up it would have remained as is.

While removing the counter with the saw, I decided that if I moved the whole vanity toward where we stand I would have more room under it to add my tank to collect sink water to pump the toilet with.
We had a 3 gal container in there over the past two years and it worked great. A 5 gal tank would keep us from having to add fresh water from the sink.
In the salt water, leaving the boat during the week we need to pump the toilet with fresh water or it smells. Cruising that would not be an issue as it is used every day.

Some parts tested in the boat. The challenge will be the new round vanity.

All parts including shelves covered with Formica. No teak except trim.

Larger sink recessed so that when I mount the Corian it will look like an under mount sink.

Weather is now down in the low teens for the next week, (Jan 12th)  no trips to the boat this week!

Feb.7th, some progress, still too cold. BUT we decided to sell our house! So the projects will stop for the year. By summer 2009, we sold house and moved aboard the boat for three months while the new Condo is built. Aft head is usable but never got finished. As of now 6/2010 we are in another sailing season, love the Condo and aft head remains 90% complete. Maybe next winter.

Updated pics. June 2010.  As you can see it almost looks complete.  Molding under the counter is missing and no doors on upper cabinet.
So far nothing flies across the head when healed! Maybe this winter I can finish it. Must SAIL NOW!

Tank works great! Fresh water to flush the toilet. Look closely and you can see the water level in it. No more salt water smell!

Happy Sailing!
